Mango Passion Fruit Green Smoothie

Summer is coming to a close and we have to make the best of the last few days that we can still get better tropical ingredients. My solution, make a smoothie! Mango and passion fruit are not native to Europe. But during the summer months you can get the better tasting mango in the Netherlands. I say better because the best is taken fresh from the tree. I would know I grew up with a mango tree in my backyard. Also, during the summer your body is better equipped to handle these tropical ingredients than during the winter. So, eat up!
Frozen or Fresh?
Okay I know I just said the fresh fruits are better during the summer, but when making a smoothie with frozen fruit you get a thicker consistency. And I just looove that. There are 2 options you have here. One you could buy the fruits fresh, dice them and freeze them till the moment you need them. Or you could buy frozen fruit. I have tried both options and for certain fruits it really doesn’t matter, like for example berries. But other fruits like mango, I got better flavor from the fresh than from the frozen ones. That’s why I opt to buy fresh and freeze to still get that thick smoothie I like so much. Other fruits you can easily freeze are bananas, strawberries, melons. And probably a lot more, but these are in my opinion tastier when frozen fresh during the season.
Easy as 1,2,3
There really aren’t many instructions when it comes to making a smoothie. Just blend and drink up. However, I do split the blending process in 2 when making a green smoothie. I do this in order to make sure all the leaves break up and blend well with the liquid. First, I blend the milk with the greens and only after it has been broken down do I add the fruit. I’m sure you can skip over this step if you have a high-power blender, but this is how I get the best result.
Green Smoothie Time
I rarely make a smoothie these days without adding greens. My thinking is, if it tastes good without greens, it will definitely taste great with greens. And to me the extra boost I get from adding the greens makes it a no brainer. During the summer I do a lot of spinach. And once it starts getting colder I get my hands on kale. How do you like your smoothies?
